Army Education, Training and Doctrine Development Command Continues to Strengthen Correct Gender Equality Perception to Protect Military Honor (Jan 8th 2016)

(Military News Agency reporter, Chen Ying-Zhu, Taipei, Jan 7th) Regarding the “Control Yuan Approval of Impeachment of Army Education, Training and Doctrine Development Command Colonel Lin”, the Army Education, Training and Doctrine Development Command expressed today that they will respect the authority of the Control Yuan and will cooperate in accordance with the resolution of the Public Functionary Disciplinary Sanction Commission.

The Army Education, Training and Doctrine Development Command indicated that upon receiving report of the complaint, they had established a task force to conduct investigations in the spirit of upholding justice and preventing wrongs or indulgence. The perpetrator, Colonel Lin was turned over for legal proceedings on July 17th 2015. In addition, the “Sexual Harassment Complaint Committee” was established in accordance with regulations, and passed the resolution of the sexual harassment on August 6th. In accordance with the principles of “Parallel Criminal and Penalty System”, Lin was penalized with 1 Major Demerit Point, 3 Minor Demerit Points and 2 Severe Warnings by the military and was transferred to non-supervisory position on September 1st to await investigations.

The Army Education, Training and Doctrine Development Command stressed that besides being upset by the incident, they will cooperate fully with the judicial investigations. In addition, they will use this case as example to strengthen disciplinary education of the military and advocate that the officers and soldiers should observe the code of conduct between men and women and establish the correct perception of gender equality so as to strengthen military discipline and preserve the military honor.
